Intravenous (IV) Therapy

What is IV therapy?

Intravenous (IV) vitamin and mineral therapy is a safe and powerful healing tool. IV therapy consists of a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients specifically selected for a patient’s condition and are administered directly into the vein.  Administering the nutrients intravenously can achieve serum concentrations higher than what can be obtained through oral supplementation.

What to expect at your first visit

Before scheduling your first IV therapy, you will require an initial intake visit with Dr. Kathleen Mercer.  Your first visit will involve an in-depth look at your health history, medications, supplements, and allergies as well as a physical exam.  Blood work may be necessary to determine how to tailor the treatment for you specifically. You will then be able to book your first IV.  If you receive IV therapy from another clinic, a referral letter from the prescribing Doctor that you see will be required and therefore you will not require an initial visit if you do not want to be seen as a patient by Dr. Mercer.  IV treatments will usually be 20-60 minutes. During the treatment you can read, relax, rest, or meditate in our relaxing IV therapy suite. We have two IV recliners in our IV suite where our Nurse will be able to give your IV.  We strive to make it a comfortable, positive and relaxing experience for you!

How often is it given and who can benefit from IV Therapy?

The frequency of treatment depends of the individual and the condition being treated. Typically they are done weekly for five to six weeks. Frequency is typically tapered down as symptoms improve, and monthly IVs can be given for maintenance.

Patients may book in for IV therapy for a “boost” before and after travel, stressful event, high athletic output, post illness, or pre-winter immune protection as well as for increased energy and general sense of well-being.

IV therapy is an adjunct therapy for cancer care.  Evidence exists showing that IV Therapies can be used safely and effectively for a variety of disorders including: Cancer and post cancer healing, General Aging Support, Pain Disorders (Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, etc.), Chronic Fatigue, Heart Disease, Macular Degeneration, Lupus, MS as well as for individuals who can benefit from bypassing the digestive system to ensure absorption.

IV therapy is offered out of Winterholme Wellness Center by Dr. Kathleen Mercer, ND.
